GABE HAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY
Oh weather. April in Iowa can bring all four seasons in a matter of days. When Becker and Tracey got married, the weather was like fall coming all over again. At least Wilson's Orchard was in full bloom.
The morning started out fine. Bridal pictures at the always gorgeous Hotel Vetro. I don't think there is a way to take a bad photograph in there. Got the photos of the ladies getting ready, and then it was off to the ceremony site.
As we were leaving, the rain came. It wasn't a sprinkle either. A good steady downpour. April showers I guess. I offered to give rides to some of the bridal party, as their better halves were already at the orchard, and they needed a way to get there. Who says minivans aren't useful.
Off we went to the ceremony and reception site. The couple booked Rapid Creek Cidery at Wilson's orchard, outside of Iowa City. They had just opened recently, and it was nice to see the inside.
The couple did their first look, and we got the family formal photos. It was still pouring off and on, so we had to use the covered balcony so people wouldn't get wet.
The day progresses; the ceremony was beautiful, and the reception was the kind of party you want when you get married. I went through the evening getting the photos the couple had requested.
(more after the photodrop)
When the party pictures were captured and I got all the guests pictures, I asked the newlyweds if they wouldn't mind getting one more picture, but I wanted to try it outside. By this time, it was totally dark. The rain had stopped, but It was very windy, 30+ mph, and decently cold. They happily agreed. I recruited a wedding guest as a temporary assistant and we went out into the unknown.
We got out into the orchard, and the groom graciously offered his coat to his new bride. We got the lights dialed in, and came out with something that the couple loved. I feel those final images captured their love for each other, and the whole ambiance of the day.
It makes me feel really good when couples trust me when I say I have an idea for a photo. It always brings something new, and exciting.
Thanks Becker and Tracey, I hope the future is as beautiful as your wedding was.
